Climate in Amazonas: Average
annual temperatures run at 15°(Maximum 24° and minimum
18° C). The rain season runs from December to March. Because
of the state of the roads, it is best to visit the department
of Amazonas outside the rain season.
Climate in Kuelap: The rainy
climate and the steamy forest mean the best time of year for
visiting is from May to September, although the climate is
always hot (maximum 22°C and minimum 13°C).
Access to Amazonas: The best
route is overland from Lima-Chiclayo-Chachapoyas (1,225 km),
a 24-hour drive by car. Another overland route is that of
Lima-Trujillo-Cajamarca-Celendín-Chachapoyas (1,199
km), a 26-hour trip. There are no direct commercial flights,
but one can charter flights from Chiclayo.
Access to Kuelap: The Kuélap
fortress lies 74 km (5 hours) southwest of the city of Chachapoyas.
The city, capital of the department of Amazonas, is 410 km
from the city of Chiclayo. There are no regular flights, but
groups can charter planes in Chiclayo.
